Rep. Vargas Names South Bay Resident Randy Bellamy June “Citizen of the Month”

Chula Vista, CA (June 7, 2013) –Congressman Juan Vargas (CA-51) delivers the June “Citizen of the Month” award to Chula Vista resident Randy Bellamy.  Rep. Vargas is acknowledging Bellamy for his commitment to providing athletic programs to those with disabilities, promoting character development programs for children, and enhancing the lives of South Bay residents.

“It gives me great pleasure to honor Randy Bellamy for his tremendous efforts and unparalleled dedication to improving his community,” said Rep. Vargas. “Randy has created a legacy of civic involvement and local leadership, and his contributions will have a lasting, positive impact on the City of Chula Vista and its surrounding communities.”

Bellamy, owner of Village Cremation Services in Chula Vista, serves as Chair of the Charter Review Commission for the City of Chula Vista and Vice Chair of the South County Boys and Girls Club Board of Directors.  He is also active in his Kiwanis Club, chairing their service projects with Sports 4 Exceptional Athletes, an organization that partners with South Bay community organizations to provide recreational activities for those with disabilities.

Over the past 10 years Bellamy has chaired or helped organize numerous community events such as, the Fun Run in Chula Vista.  In addition, he served as Lt. Governor of Kiwanis Division 11, which covers the South Bay and Southeastern San Diego.

“There are few things more inspiring than an individual, like Randy, who has devoted so much of his time and energy to improving the lives of others,” said Rep. Vargas.  “I am thrilled that Randy is leading the charge for vital change in our community.”

The “Citizen of the Month” Award is presented to individuals, businesses, or organizations that dedicate themselves to improving the 51st Congressional District and the lives of those who reside therein. 

Vargas represents California’s 51st Congressional District which includes the southern portion of San Diego County, all of Imperial County and California’s entire US/Mexico border.  Vargas is currently serving his first term in Congress.  He represented the 40th California State Senate District from 2010-2012, the 79th California State Assembly District from 2000 – 2006 and served on the San Diego City Council from 1993 – 2000.
